Goodyear will instituted a partial shutdown of its truck and otr tire lines in their Topeka plant come FebruaryIt seems that Goodyear really is having a rough time getting rid of stocks. Another foreboding sign was their closing of a plant that mixes rubber for their tire stocks.
They will lay off a total of 49 people when all is said and done. With all of the plant shutdowns Goodyear has experienced over the past 9 months, one has to wonder what is going on over there. Michelin has experienced a pause in operations as well, though they don’t seem to have been affected nearly as much as Goodyear.
Bridgestone-Firestone’s Off-Road division continues to plug ahead towards doubling production capacity for giant loader tires. Unless I am wrong ( realistically, this never happens), Bridgestone is taking this in stride. In fact, I do believe they sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show for the second year running. Not bad.
In completely unrelated news, it seems Japan’s sewer system has higher gold yields than an actual mine. Evidently, the electronics companies in the area use so much gold, that the waste levels have higher concentration levels than ore. The incenerated sewage has 1893 grammes of gold per ton, versus a yield of 20-40 grams per ton of ore.
At current prices, the city of Nagano, Japan will have raked in $150,000 of gold after subtracting expenses for the fiscal year. I think I’m gonna go check the toilets at Intel for a little extra spending money.
